tough

Here’s the start of a recent poem, currently titled “tough”:

I’m not tough enough for us

hot asphalt calloused feet

where I can’t walk

scratched knees

where I fall

I pray

plead

bargain

with my savior

tell your death angel

pass us by

don’t breathe on us
