why write?

I have to write what I hear in my head, what I dream in my sleep, what my bones ache to express.

My poems tell stories of strength, love, regret, disobedience, loss, hope, redemption, and whatever whispers.

when

I hope, I pray through all your days, you have someone who’ll say, “I got you”

I only post portions of unpublished poems every six days.  This isn’t the 6th day, this isn't a portion, but I want to share the following:

when

poem inspired by Jack Johnson’s lyrics, “I Got You”

when my sad flows molten

my madness fluid

when disbelief burbles

sunshine mocks lightning

when my skin catches fire

when I sleep until nine

won’t wake before noon

I’m laundry on a line

I flutter in cold

when my opaque can’t breathe

I’m no more substantial

than my addiction

when I’m incapable

I can’t imagine

I crave my devil kiss

when I mock mystery

when I won’t wonder

when breath freezes my death

I know I’ll hear somebody say, “I got you”
