why write?

I have to write what I hear in my head, what I dream in my sleep, what my bones ache to express.

My poems tell stories of strength, love, regret, disobedience, loss, hope, redemption, and whatever whispers.

I want him

I wrote a recent, raw piece during my husband’s radiation and chemotherapy treatments.  Here are the last two stanzas of I want him:

. . .

. . .

I want callow hope

want to forget when I sleep

I don’t want tosses and turns

they bifurcate dream

I can’t bear my brave face

I don’t want it

I want him
